About Karol Blumenthal
My first painting was an abstract oil done in the 1960s. No more art for almost 30 years. Then, art began to creep back into my life in the 1980's while studying Interior Design. In 2003, I took a week-long intensive class in collage which opened the world of creating art for me. I love color, contrast, texture, nature, architecture and abstractions. I have worked in collage, watercolor, pastels, acrylic, oil, glass and enamel as well as my first love, digital art.
With the advent of the digital camera, I discovered my passion for photography. Then came my introduction into Photoshop and my life in the new millenium was changed forever. I was hooked. All my digital art starts with my straight photography which I then morph into either abstract designs or recognizable subjects in very unrecognizable circumstances (i.e., changing shapes, color, textures, etc.) My love of architecture, Los Angeles, nature and travel inspires much of my work. Although all of my digital art originates from my traditional photographs, what happens after that is some form of magic that occurs between me and my computer. Neither one of us could create without the other; each piece being a very intuitive "event".
I still consider myself a novice and love the chase of attaining as much knowleege of art as fast as I can so that it absorbs itself into my skin and comes out of my pores, hopefully, in the form of beautiful art.
